Tips For Eating Less This Thanksgiving

By Dr. Dan Van Roon • November 18th, 2010

Most of want to avoid the bulge during the holidays, but find that it is hard to do. So here are some tips that you can easily follow to avoid overeating this Thanksgiving(and other holiday feasts for that matter).
1. Go for a run in the morning. Getting in some exercise decreases your appetite. Besides, it has the added benefit of burning calories too. Don’t like running? Subtitute any other good cardiovascular exercise like swimming, biking, stair stepping, etc.
2. Put smaller portions on your plate and CHEW your food. I mean really chew it. Most people chew 5-6 times and swallow. Chewing your food like 15 or so times makes it easier to digest and it takes longer to eat.
3. Start your meal with a glass of water. No calories and it fills your belly.
4. Stay away from seconds.
5. If you go for dessert, just take a bite or two for the taste, and be done with it.
Follow these few tips and you too can beat the bulge for the holidays!
